1995 Special Olympics World Games to Air on Comcast Cablevision

Do you remember 1995 and the 1995 Special Olympics World Summer Games that were held in New Haven? Now you can re-experience the "Sport, Spirit, Splendor" of the 1995 Special Olympics World Games on Comcast Cablevision of Middletown, Public Access Channel, Cable Channel 3 on Sunday, July 18, at 9PM and every Sunday throughout the summer. The program is approximately one hour and 47 minutes. The 1995 Special Olympics World Games was the largest sporting event ever held in Connecticut up until that time. Comcast Cablevision of Clinton will also air the video in the near future.

The program will include highlights from the 1995 Special Olympics World Games featuring the 7,200 athletes from over 140 countries who competed in 19 sports. Durham and Middlefield were among the towns that hosted teams from countries around the world—Durham families hosted athletes from Thailand and Middlefield families hosted athletes from Burkina Faso. Eunice Kennedy-Shriver, the founder of Special Olympics can be seen along with her husband Sargent Shriver, the Chairman Emeritus of Special Olympics and Tim Shriver, president and CEO of Special Olympics International. Also, former President Bill Clinton, former Governor John G. Rowland, former Governor and U.S. Senator Lowell P. Weicker Jr., and California Governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger are among the many dignitaries that are in the video.

The Greater Middletown Special Olympics is looking for potential athletes ages 8 and above that could benefit from the many athletic events of Special Olympics. The Greater Middletown Special Olympics serves athletes with developmental disabilities ages 8 and above in a variety of well-coached olympic type sports who reside in Cromwell, Durham, East Haddam, East Hampton, Haddam, Middlefield, Middletown and Portland.
