Retiring state Sen. David Magnani is throwing his energy into the battle ground states for the Kerry campaign, though he hopes to attend a social event with former presidential candidate George McGovern.

A former DNC delegate, Magnani said he decided not to run this time around to give someone else a chance to attend the convention.

He plans to campaign for Kerry in Pennsylvania, Illinois and Ohio in the coming months.



Last week, he was on the phone this week with folks from Teresa Heinz Kerry's office about trying to book her for a National Peace Corps Volunteers Association conference.

The organization of returned Peace Corps volunteers celebrates its 25th anniversary in August during a three-day conference in Chicago.

"I'm focusing most of my attention outside of Massachusetts. I have a suspicion John might squeak by in Massachusetts," Magnani said.
