PEACE CORPS IN FOAL TO FROM ABOVE

Peace Corps, one of the greatest trotting mares in harness racing history, is in foal to From Above, winner of the 2003 Elitlopp in Sweden.

Earlier this year, Peace Corps was turned out with Mack Lobell in a field at Menhammar Stuteri in Sweden, but failed to conceive.

At the end of the season, her owners, Annika and John Bootsman of Boko Stakes, decided to see if they could get lucky with one final breeding. She conceived on July 14.

"We put her on Regumate immediately and now we cross our fingers, wait, and pray," said Bootsman.

From Above is a son of Zoot Suit (Nevele Pride) from the Armbro Goal mare A Gift From Heaven. His second dam is the Merrie Annabelle winner Super Nice. From Above won the biggest races for both 3-Year-Olds and for 4-Year-Old in Sweden.

Last year he defeated Scarlet Knight and Victory Tilly in winning the Elitlopp before being sidelined by a leg injury.

Peace Corps, now 18, won 62 races and over $4.1 million during her racing career.

She has not, however, been a success as a broodmare. She's had six previous foals by six stallions: Mack Lobell, Pine Chip, Malabar Man, Muscles Yankee, Self Possessed, and Donerail. She was bred last year to Conway Hall, but aborted.

Bootsman also reports that Ouzo Boko, a Victory Dream ¾ sister to Hambletonian favourite Cash Hall, was turned out with Mack Lobell this year and also didn't get in foal. She was bred once to Viking Kronos once and conceived.
