I served in Haiti in 2002 and 2003. The Peace Corps Staff did everything humanly possible to protect us and to encourage us to act responsibly. I didn't always feel safe but I was reminded how to avoid unsafe situations and how to respond when I found myself in danger. It was a constant concern voiced by Staff and I felt supported. The Peace Corps goes to places that need help. Those places frequently are not safe. It's part of the job and the Peace Corps does a great job making PCV's aware of this and teaching us how to be safe.
