Ranger district announces new fire officer

CLE ELUM - The Cle Elum Ranger District announce Tuesday that Chris Theisen will be the new fire management officer starting Sept. 6. Theisen comes to Cle Elum from Montana's Lewis and Clark National Forest, where he is the Hotshot crew superintendent.

Theisen has strong ties to Washington, according to a Cle Elum Ranger District news release. He grew up in Western Washington and attended Washington State University graduating with a degree in forest management. After graduation he worked on the Colville National Forest in silviculture and presale, followed by a tour in the Peace Corps to Central America.

Theisen returned to the Wenatchee National Forest in 1988 as a member of the Entiat Hotshot crew. His fire experience continued as an assistant fire management officer at Colville's Newport Ranger District, followed by six years on the Umpqua National Forest in Oregon leading the Wolf Creek Hotshot crew.

He said he is looking forward to seeing the area this winter on telemark skis and settling in to his new job and community.
