Dayton Daily News wins first place in Investigative Reporting for "Casualties of Peace,"
SPJ award winners announced
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- News organizations in Dayton, Hamilton, Newark, Cleveland and Elyria won best of show for 2003 from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists.
More than 900 entries were submitted by 120 news organizations. The awards will be presented Saturday in Cleveland.
The winners:
Print (over 100,000 circulation)
Best Daily Newspaper: Dayton Daily News.
Best Investigative Reporting: First Place, "Casualties of Peace," Russell Carollo, Mei-Ling Hopgood, Dayton Daily News; second, "Police Overtime," Tim Heider, Joseph Wagner The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer.

Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it.
