SPJ award winners announced

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- News organizations in Dayton, Hamilton, Newark, Cleveland and Elyria won best of show for 2003 from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists.

More than 900 entries were submitted by 120 news organizations. The awards will be presented Saturday in Cleveland.

The winners:

Print (over 100,000 circulation)

Best Daily Newspaper: Dayton Daily News.

Best Investigative Reporting: First Place, "Casualties of Peace," Russell Carollo, Mei-Ling Hopgood, Dayton Daily News; second, "Police Overtime," Tim Heider, Joseph Wagner The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer.
