Do you want to make a positive difference in your community? Here is your chance!

The Field of Dreams Committee, with the help of the Peace Corps Fellows from Western Illinois University, is planning an improvement day for Citizens Lake. The group hopes to attract enough volunteers to form two teams. One team will be removing invasive species, planting seedlings, and picking up trash around the lake. The second team will be building new dugouts and making other improvements to the ball field that is north of the lake.

The Field of Dreams Committee is arranging for the tools and necessary equipment for the volunteers. If you would like to volunteer it is suggested that you wear pants or jeans and a long sleeve shirt and close-toed shoes for safety reasons. Water will also be provided for the volunteers.

The event is planned for September 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. If the event is rained out an alternate day of October 2 has been arranged. The group organizing this event hopes to get volunteers from all aspects of the community to work together to improve the recreational facilities available for the community. If you are thinking of volunteering but can't give a whole day please feel free to come out to the lake for as long as you can, any help will be appreciated!

Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it.
