Governor Schwarzenegger praised the Peace Corps at the Republican National Convention: "We're the America that sends out Peace Corps volunteers to teach village children." Schwarzenegger has previously acknowledged his debt to his father-in-law, Peace Corps Founding Director Sargent Shriver, for teaching him "the joy of public service" and Arnold is encouraging volunteerism by creating California Service Corps and tapping his wife, Maria Shriver, to lead it. Vasquez should resign.

He has failed former volunteers many of the 2,800 Volunteers who served and were victims of violence in service in the 1990's and into present day. 31 volunteers have perished in service during the 1990's and into 2004. This is 125% percent increase since Peace Corps inception. The Dayton Daily news has won awards for revealing these facts on safety, A GAO report has been written, hearings have taken place in the house and the senate where even members of his own party had to seriously question what he was doing in reagards to the safety and health of volunteers during and after service.

They have done nothing for the victims of violence and have committed civil rights violations against volunteers who were wrongfully separated. They have covered up our cases and he never gets seriously questioned on it and he should. He has taken more trips on government money than many of his predessors. Yet, volunteers who served with health problems or safety related issues at times go homeless, parents lose their house trying to supply the health care for their kids who served, parents having no support on breivement for their kids they lost to death and the list goes on.

He never ansewers the questions. While you are having lunch after his speech ask him if he served. Ask why he has not made trips to volunteers who served yet went through horrible safety and health issues. When he starts talking about his trip to Thailand ask him about the 2,800 Volunteers he has not visited or brought justice in their cases.

Ask him about the woman volunteers serving in Islamic countries and if they are coupled with another volunteer in their particular village. Or will he continue the same unsafe policy of putting women at risk and american citizens who serve in Peace Corps. And if they have a problem he will cover it up through separation or their poorly managed health care system at Peace Corps.

You should be ashamed of yourself for having this guy before the club. He is like the empty coffee cup you will give him.

Concerned former Volunteer
