How to buy votes from the Geneva Human Rights Commission
BY VICTOR DALTON—Taken from Rebelión—
AS everybody knows, last year Honduras presented a resolution condemning Cuba that was drafted by the United States and approved by the 60th Geneva Human Rights Committee (HRC) by just one vote.
[Excerpt]
Who were the men and women responsible for that dirty work in the corridors of the United Nations headquarters in Geneva? To guarantee the adoption of the anti-Cuban resolution in Geneva, the US governmental delegation at the 60th HRC session was "reinforced" with personnel of lengthy experience in implementing hostile anti-Cuban policies and in using the club against governments in the south; such as Cuban Frank Almaguer.
Almaguer served as Washington’s ambassador in Tegucigalpa from1999 to 2002. Previously, he had repeatedly interfered and intervened in Central American affairs and in other countries in Latin America, carrying out his missions behind the "humanitarian" façade of the so called Peace Corps and USAID.
The commitment of a US administration to the most reactionary and aggressive elements of violent armed groups in Miami had never been so obvious.
