Maybe I was wrong about Snowe
By David Paul Brown
[Excerpt]
On the weekend of the two-year anniversary of the U.S. led coalition attacking Iraq, several media companies, both cable and network, gave their figures on the death count of Iraqi civilians. CBS, NBC and ABC all "low-balled" their figures to a astounding degree. It's not surprising.
Various human rights groups and the Peace Corps all gave substantially higher figures. If our government is going to kill in our name, why don't they just be honest about the death count?
According to the well respected British medical journal Lancet, the number is roughly 100,000 and that it's probably a conservative figure. This also doesn't include the civilian injuries. One retort to these ghastly figures is usually something like "war is hell" or "that's what soldiers do, they kill and they break things, to have to go to war has horrible consequences." The key word is "have." We didn't "have" to go to this war. I don't know what the total count of the demonstrators in the U.S. was over the weekend.
I know our biggest allies in the war (England) had roughly 45,000 in London alone.

On a lighter note, it's almost baseball season and hope springs eternal for every team regardless of their possibilities of being successful.
Seeing one of my all-time favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox, win it all last year probably can't be beat. Especially beating the best team money can buy - the hated New York Yankees. Steroids? Nah, I'd rather stay positive and not go down that road.
