Open House in Cleveland, Ohio on April 20
To all future volunteers, returned volunteers, family members, and others interested in the Peace Corps,
On April 20, an Open House event will take place in Cleveland, Ohio, at Cuyahoga Community College Eastern Campus, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. The theme of this Open House is "Discovering Our Global Neighborhood." It will feature former Peace Corps Director Kevin O'Donnell, as well as the college's Earth Balloon. This Open House serves to bring the Peace Corps community together so that RPCVs, prospective volunteers, family members and others can connect with one another and learn more about Peace Corps and the NPCA.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served, and those who attend will have the opportunity to learn about the Peace Corps and the NPCA from representatives of their different programs, as well as the chance to talk and mingle with other members of the Peace Corps community!
TWO WORKSHOPS WILL BE OFFERED BEFORE THE OPEN HOUSE
Join us from 4:00pm-5:00 pm for one of the following workshops:
**RPCVs: A Step-By-Step Guide To Recruitment**
This workshop is for RPCVs who would like to help Peace Corps recruit the next generation of qualified applicants. Your experiences as a volunteer make you a valuable source of information for prospective volunteers! Many of today’s volunteers attribute their initial interest in Peace Corps to an RPCV friend, neighbor or teacher. Learn how to arrange and conduct your own General Information Session, partner with your local recruitment office, and tell your Peace Corps story to your community. A step-by-step reference guide and promotional materials will be provided to all participants.
Presenters:
Kristina Bliss, Chicago Area Recruitment Coordinator Courtney Cunningham, Chicago Area Regional Recruiter
**Exploring New Partnerships for Discovering the Global Community**
Using the Global Café discussion format, representatives of different sectors of the Peace Corps and local education communities will share resources and explore opportunities for collaboration around educational programs. Invited participants include representatives from:
Northern Ohio Returned Volunteer Association (NORVA)
National Peace Corps Association (NPCA)
Cuyahoga Community College’s Global Issues Resource Center
Local schools
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts
Cleveland Council on World Affairs
Participants are encouraged to “think outside the box” in developing an action plan to carry out the Third Goal of Peace Corps, “bringing the world back home.”
Facilitators:
Michelle Johnson, President, NORVA
Anne Baker, Vice President, NPCA

| Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
| Crisis Corps arrives in Thailand After the Tsunami in Southeast Asia last December, Peace Corps issued an appeal for Crisis Corps Volunteers and over 200 RPCVs responded. The first team of 8 Crisis Corps volunteers departed for Thailand on March 18 to join RPCVs who are already supporting relief efforts in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and India with other agencies and NGO's. |
