Three members and the chapter advisor of Mesalands Community College honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, recently traveled to their 2005 International Convention in Dallas, Texas. Over the three-day conference they were addressed by pop and soul diva Patti Labell, former mayor of New York City Rudy Gulianni, three time U.S. National champion Girgure Skater Michael Weiss; National Director of the Peace Corps, Gaddi H. Vasquez; Grammy Award winner and Phi Theta Kappa alumnus, Rudy Gatlin and other special guest and speaker. About 4000 Phi Theta kappa members participated in the convention The club elected the 2005-2006 international officers. They also donated a check of $700,000 towards their one million dollar goal, to the American Cancer Society during the convention. The next International Convention will be in Seattle, Wash. in April 2006.

170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community.
