First Parish concert to feature mother and daughter on May 7
Thursday, May 5, 2005
Ellen Schmidt and her daughter, Wendy Santis, will team up with Bedford singer/songwriters Alice and Buffie Groves in concert at First Parish, Bedford, Saturday evening May 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets at the door are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors/students, and children under 12 are admitted free. Proceeds will benefit the work of First Parish.
The singers will be accompanied by guitarist Seth Connelly. Ellen Schmidt appears frequently at the Emerson Umbrella Open Mike and local coffeehouse venues. She writes much of her own material and says her songs express a positive attitude about life and love.
Daughter Wendy Santis presents songs with a Latin American flavor. She served in the Peace Corps in Ecuador and plays the quena, an Andean flute. Wendy also performs jazz standards in Spanish and Portuguese.
Alice Groves and daughter Buffie have appeared at First Parish on many occasions. Alice is noted for her interpretation of swing tunes of the 1930s and 1940s while Buffie comes out of the folk tradition of the 1960s and 1970s.
The concert will take place in the Common Room at First Parish. Handicap accessible access is via the Elm Street entrance. Light refreshments will be available. There is on-street parking around the church.

| Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong 170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community. |
