Hi! I have been thinking about joining the Peace Corps and even though I'm only in 8th grade I have been thinking about what I want to do. So I had a few questions about joining: What excactly do you do in the Peace Corps besides helping people? When you get sent somewhere do you pay for your ticket? Do you have to have gone to College or need any other experiences? Thanx!

Hi! When you join you are given an assignment which depends on your education/experience. You could be dealing with education in schools, health issues, environmental, business or agricultural tasks. You are trained for 1-3 months in the language and technical skills you need to know. The peace corps pays for your plane ticket to and from the country you are sent to. You receieve $285/month which is put into an account that you can't touch until after you serve your 2 years. It is considered a volunteer position. It is up to the individual person as to how much time and effort they want to spend on their project. Hope this helps:)

So I had a few questions about joining: Do you choose what kind of work you want to do, or where you want to go? Is it dangerous? When you get sent somewhere do you pay for your ticket? Do you have to have gone to College or need any other experiences? Do you need to pay your way (i.e. food, housing, etc.)? Are you suppose to have a job too? Is the minimum 2 years, or can you go 1 or what? Adside from obvious experince, service to country, and other values, what are the benefits?

I have been interested in the peace core now for a couple of years. I love the history and tradition. I have a passion and a place in my heart for the people in Africa being deeply effected by extreme poverty. I am a sophmore in college. I can not help but feel this is a very important time, seeing as i have not declared my major as of yet. I was interested in what major would suit me best for work to combat poverty in Africa. I realize the scope of this question is massive, but please break it down for me a little. Thank you Daniel

Hello,
I am going to be turning 18 in a month, and I was just wondering what schooling I should receive to be able to join. I have wanted to help people all my life, and I have done as much as I could. I see all the pain and suffering in the world and I have decided I would dedicate my whole Life to make the world a better place. I would like to join but I am unsure how too. My E-mail address is kangaroo_grl123@yahoo.com. I would very much appreciate it if you could answer my questions! Thank you, Yvonne

ive been thinking latley about joing the peace corps, but ive heard that if you obtain a foreign disease that the U.S. doesnt have a cure for, you arent allowed back. Is this true? Also, what are the requirements for joining?

Hi, I am going to be getting my GED and I was curious if there were any specific educational requirements. I checked out their website but they only talked about people who were likely to join. Is someone with only their GED automatically declined? And what else do they look at when they are accepting people?

Hello, I'm graduating highschool in 2009 i really want to join the Peace Corps after highschool. I was Born in Recife,Brazil and i came here when i was 9 years old..I expirienced the poverty and many of the disadvantages that came along while growing up in a third world country. I am fluent in English,Spanish and Portuguese. i find it easy to commmunicate with others even if they do not speak the same language as me..I belive in world peace, and the wellness of everyone. i believe in lending a hand now when we can, beacause tomorrow isnt promised. I love children, and that is one of the main reason i want to join the Peace Corps, there is just way too many abandoned, mistreated and starving children out there.. and i want to reach out and help make a difference. i want to console every sad, lonely, tearful child. i want to hold them and tell them they will be alright. I want to fill up the empty plates, and watch them beam at what most of our children take for granted. I want to help their parents, the adults to gain the strength they need to live on their lives. I feel as if this is what i was born to do. Please send me any info..

Hello,
Is the Peace Core still active? Is there a cut off age for volunteers. Is a degree required? Must one be a professional to join?
