Fifty Flowers-a Premier Source for Fresh Flowers

Often, we know very little about the sources from which we buy our flowers and floral materials. This is especially true in America with many of the bouquets and items we see in mass market stores being largely imported from South America, or elsewhere. For that reason, I like to occasionally do articles about particularly outstanding cut flower growers with Fifty Flowers being an example.

[Excerpt]

When asked for background on the business and the products it offers, Liza M. Roeser, owner of the company, had this to say, “I found myself finishing up my Peace Corps commitment in Ecuador and was looking for an employment opportunity. I was introduced to a paying job in flowers. I worked for several flower farms and ended up running the entire marketing department for the largest flower grower, exporter, importer from South America. I oversaw flower sales/marketing from our farms and partners in Ecuador, Colombia, California, and Holland. After working 18 hour days for 3 years on a salary, I decided to start my own company. I began my first company (which is a growing, all-women employed business) in 1998 which is dedicated to representing smaller growers in Ecuador and Colombia by selling their products to wholesalers around the world.

Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong Date: April 2 2005 No: 543 Friends of the Peace Corps 170,000 strong
170,000 is a very special number for the RPCV community - it's the number of Volunteers who have served in the Peace Corps since 1961. It's also a number that is very special to us because March is the first month since our founding in January, 2001 that our readership has exceeded 170,000. And while we know that not everyone who comes to this site is an RPCV, they are all "Friends of the Peace Corps." Thanks everybody for making PCOL your source of news for the Returned Volunteer community.
