Open Source Diva RPCV Danese Cooper writes: I am struck again by how much internal systems reinforce culture, or is it vice versa? Of course such systems are designed to make workers more productive while protecting things like privacy and intellectual property. But in my experience corporate systems also contribute to a hive-mind effect that can be unintentionally limiting.

Reflections of Open Source Diva Morocco RPCV Danese Cooper: There were a lot of people who started at Peace Corps who've ended up doing social consciousness work or working for NGOs (non-governmental organizations) around the world because what really motivated them was a desire to help. If what motivates you is a desire to see what good technology in the most hands or to learn from some of the best programmers in the world (and become one yourself) there are a lot of benefits to involving yourself in the Open Source community that are self-gratifying in addition to being good for the world. If you're interested in doing well while doing good then I think Open Source is a fine choice, and aspiring to show up shouldn't be denigrated.
