1. Introduction

As ever rising importance of local initiatives to promote multi dimensional development of rural farmers, the Farmers’ Institute for Participatory Research and Development (FIPRED) has been established in 2000 and headquartered in dhangadhi-2 far Western part of Nepal. FIPRED is a national, non-governmental, non-political, non-profit making, pro-farmer and pro-poor organization established to assist regional as well as national development through participatory technology generation and dissemination. The local agricultural graduates land the organization and are Far Western Development Region based. We are proud to say that the organization is enriched with well-versed and well-experienced agriculturists and professionals from vivid disciplines. Thus we are in the state to have the sound platform to deal with the multifaceted problems of people through multidisciplinary approach emphasizing the people’s participation FIPRED works in collaboration with Government on regional and national levels with multilateral, bilateral donor agencies national and local NGOs and community based organizations on the development ground. The organization is legally affiliated with the social Welfare Council 2002 and NGO Federation Nepal 2004.

2. Aims and Objectives

Broad objective of FIPRED is to raise the living standard of rural poor farmers through effective participatory research and development model. The specific objectives of the organization are:
• To identify key problems, develop the solutions and disseminate them through broader Participation of farmer’s.
• To Develop technology those are environmentally friendly, sustainable and economically suitable for small and marginal farmers.
• To promote broad participation of socially and economically disadvantaged groups in research and development activities.
• To increase level of awareness on rural farmers on current or long-term issues such as biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, gender equity and sustainable agriculture systems,
• To strengthen the indigenous knowledge system of the farmers with some practical modifications. .
• To conduct research for overall development or small and medium class farmers. and
• To develop suitable education system for integrated development of farmers.
3. Organizational Structure
A central committee elected by the general assembly runs the FIPRED. The general assembly is to be held in every year. General assembly sets priorities and programs to launch in next year. Central committee in the frame set by general assembly decides the organization’s major policies. Branches also conduct local level programs but should consult central committee and general assembly set inconsistence with the objectives and priorities. The foundations of the organization are all contribution of its members of diverse backgrounds. The central committee issues membership to competent persons with a strong vision of social service. The organization seeks advice from highly qualified and experienced professionals of diverse academic background. The organization also has a formal advisory board consisting of key personnel of different backgrounds.
