Dear Mr. Dobbs:
The National Institutes of Health is the major Federal Government agency supporting medical research in the USA. In the last few years the amount of money advocated for fighting cancer, heart diseases etc. was cut in after inflation dollars.
This year the increase in research expenditures is 1%. Research inflation was 4% in 2007. That is the equivalent of a $900,000,000 cut. Instead of increasing the medical research effort it is being cut. Please give this problem some attention. Nobody is publicly addressing this.
Research America is a major medical research advocacy group. About 500 organizations are members including almost all medical schools, The Americal Cancer Society, The American Heart Association, The American Diabetes Association etc. Foundations include the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Howard Hughs Foundation etc. Surveys have shown that most people endorse spending more money for medical research. Research America can be contacted at 1 - 703 - 739 - 2577. You can examine there website by simply searching Research America.
Thank you,
Sincerely yours,
Alvin Steinberg
