Gender/post-conflict specialist Lesley Abdela completes a 6-month consultancy with the United Nations in Nepal at the end of next month, February and will be returning to her home base in the United Kingdom. She has been in Kathmandu since September last year as Senior Gender Adviser to the United Nations’ Chief Humanitarian Coordinator, embedded with UN OCHA.
A principal element of her Terms of Reference has been to ensure Gender is at the heart of all UN programmes and new proposals in Nepal in this IDP/post-conflict period.

Lesley’s work in Nepal has been sponsored by the Norwegian Government and the Norwegian Refugee Council via the GENCAP programme. As an international gender/post-conflict specialist, Lesley has worked boots-on-the-ground in gender issues, Gender Architecture, and Democracy-building in many post-conflict regions.
Sponsors for her work in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Sierra Leone and Aceh have included USAID, SIDA, DfID, European Commission, IOM, UNFPA etc.

Her contact email is lesley.abdela@shevolution.com. Material on her work can be found on search engines such as Google at ‘lesley abdela post conflict’.

With kindest regards.
