Maria Shriver to Hillary Clinton supporters: It's time to get over the grieving and unify
"I know many of the people on McCain's campaign," she said. "A lot of them worked on my husband's campaign. I can tell you they're tough and they're organized. You must focus on the repair work. If you don't work to heal the rupture, the fight will be all that's remembered. .... No one did that in 1980 and we all know what happened: We lost that election." Maria Shriver, daughter of Peace corps Founding Drector Sargent Shriver, is a writer, journalist and first lady of California.

Maria Shriver to Hillary Clinton supporters: It's time to get over the grieving and unify
By Jeff Mitchell
LOS ANGELES - The Golden State's First Lady, Maria Shriver, was in Los Angeles Wednesday for a Barack Obama gathering and her message to those still hanging on to the idea of Sen. Hillary Clinton becoming president was simple: Do what you have to do, but get over it and get over it quickly.
At a "Women for Obama unity cocktail reception" at the home of longtime Democratic activist and former studio head Sherry Lansing, Shriver didn't mince words according to a report in today's Los Angeles Times.
Many of the guests were firm Clinton supporters. Shriver, a backer of Barack Obama and the wife of celebrity governor and John McCain supporter Arnold Schwarzenegger, was there to help convince them that disappointment need not lead to defection.
"I know many of the people on McCain's campaign," she said. "A lot of them worked on my husband's campaign. I can tell you they're tough and they're organized. You must focus on the repair work. If you don't work to heal the rupture, the fight will be all that's remembered. .... No one did that in 1980 and we all know what happened: We lost that election."

| Dodd vows to filibuster Surveillance Act Senator Chris Dodd vowed to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that would grant retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that helped this administration violate the civil liberties of Americans. "It is time to say: No more. No more trampling on our Constitution. No more excusing those who violate the rule of law. These are fundamental, basic, eternal principles. They have been around, some of them, for as long as the Magna Carta. They are enduring. What they are not is temporary. And what we do not do in a time where our country is at risk is abandon them." |
