The Forgotten War’ topic of Schneider’s Sept. 24 noon luncheon
Schneider joined the International Crisis Group in spring 2001. He directs the Washington advocacy office, conveying Crisis Group analyses and recommendations to the White House, the State Department, the Department of Defense and Congress, as well as the World Bank and other international organizations. He also serves as special adviser on Latin America and HIV/AIDS and security. Mark Schneider, Senior Vice President of the International Crisis Group in Washington, was the second Returned Peace Corps Volunteer (El Salvador, 1966–68) to head the agency.

Mark Schneider, senior vice president and special adviser on Latin America for the International Crisis Group, will present "Af-ghanistan: The Forgotten War" at a noon luncheon of the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Old Brick Church, 26 E. Market St in Iowa City. The National Security Network is also co-sponsoring the lecture.
Schneider joined the International Crisis Group in spring 2001. He directs the Washington advocacy office, conveying Crisis Group analyses and recommendations to the White House, the State Department, the Department of Defense and Congress, as well as the World Bank and other international organizations. He also serves as special adviser on Latin America and HIV/AIDS and security.
Oasis Falafel will cater the event. Reservations are $7.50 for council members and $8.50 for nonmembers. The deadline to regis-ter is noon Monday, Sept. 22.

| Peace Corps Suspends Program in Bolivia Turmoil began in Bolivia three weeks ago sparked by President Evo Morales' pledge to redistribute wealth from the east to the country's poorer highlands. Peace Corps has withdrawn all volunteers from the country because of "growing instability." Morales has thrown out US Ambassador Philip Goldberg accusing the American government of inciting the violence. This is not the first controversy surrounding Goldberg's tenure as US ambassador to Bolivia. |
