PRCV Mark Hayward (PNG 97-99) in partnership with some friends has just launched Train for Humanity, a new non-profit organization, (http://trainforhumanity.org).

The initiative combines their passion for exercising, blogging, and the internet in an innovative new project to help raise funds and awareness for humanitarian causes.

Train for Humanity’s mission is simple: getting fit + social media + blogging = social good.

The project is loosely based on the successful campaigns that the Team in Training (Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) and Joints in Motion (Arthritis Foundation) have waged to raise funds and awareness for their respective health-based organizations by utilizing everyday athletes and their training efforts.

During the initial pilot project, the Train for Humanity participant athletes are helping to raise awareness and funds for orphans and refugees who have been affected by genocide in Darfur. Donations are being funneled to the Darfur Peace & Development Organization to help to rebuild one of their schools that was recently bombed.

For his part, Mark is currently training for the Miami Man Triathlon, which takes place in November. If you would like to learn more about Train for Humanity, please visit http://trainforhumanity.org.
