I'm looking to connect with others who wouldn't exist today if it weren't for the Peace Corps. My father served in Peru in the 1960's and met my mother there. I have a met a couple people with a similar history, and it was amazing how much we had in common. So, I started a group on Facebook called "Peace Corps Babies." Please join or tell others about it who might be interested :-)

I served in Peru from 1963 to 1965. If your father served during this period, what was his name? And where did he serve in Peru?

Hi,
I am not a peace corp baby or neither served but i wouldn't exist if it wouldnt been for one of your volunteers.
My father is from the Dominican Republic and back in 1964, one of your fallen volunteers family (Robert Zech) helped my father trough a foundation they made under his son's name and got him the aid he needet to go to college in Puerto Rico.
As my father told me, him and Robert were very good friends (so close that he named his first born after him) helping him deliver aid to families that needed help. Before Robert died, my father told me that Robert's service has ended but that he extended his service just because he was helping him arrange the papers so that my father could go to college.
I am guessing that his family knew about my dad. That's why he got his help.
Now, thinking about it, i wouldnt be here, writing this if it werent for that big hearte Zech family and their son.
God bless you Robert!! And thnks!
