Dear Group Leaders;

The National Peace Corps Association has the opportunity to nominate a candidate for the World Food Prize, a prestigious award. The prize is given annually for specific, tangible achievement which resulted in enhancing the global food situation by increasing the quality, quantity or availability of food for those most in need. The World Food Prize Council of Advisors is headed by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Norman E. Borlaug, considered by many the author of the "Green Revolution." Past laureates have come from China, Bangladesh, India, Switzerland, Mexico, the UK and the US.

We believe that NPCA members, many of whom worked in agriculture, may be aware, through their experience in the Peace Corps and afterward, of worthy candidates for this award. It could be a wonderful occasion to draw attention to the fine work of someone overseas who has been making an important contribution while laboring in obscurity. We invite you to publicize this opportunity to your groups and other Peace Corps alumni who are knowledgable about food and agriculture. The deadline for the NPCA to get a nomination to the World Food Prize secretariat is February 28. Therefore we would appreciate receiving any nominations from the field by February 15.

THESE NOMINATIONS WILL NEED TO BE IN THE FORM PRESCRIBED BY THE WORLD FOOD PRIZE. THE NPCA DOES NOT HAVE THE STAFF TO EDIT AND COMPLETE NOMINATIONS WHICH DON'T CONFORM WITH THE REQUIREMENTS.

Please consult the World Food Prize website at www.worldfoodprize.org for information on the nomination process. For questions on getting the nominations submitted, you can e-mail Dane Smith at president@rpcv.org.
