I was a volunteer in Mali from 1977 to 1979. For years, I always thought I'd like to have a "class" ring- like a college ring- with "Peace Corps Mali" in an oval on the top, and "77" on one side, and "79" on the other. I envisioned an oval piece of amber for the stone (amber is a very common stone for hair beads and ear decorations in Mali). I wrote a high school ring supplier and was told that they don't do single special orders- they have to have a large group- like a graduating class...

Is there anybody else who thinks that a "Peace Corps" ring is a good idea?

I think a "Peace Corps" ring is a spendid idea. Moreover, the work the volunteers put forth to assist in improving the quality of life is certainly worth remembering, and by having a piece of art worn on one's hand to always remind one of the hardships that all must face to get to a 'better place'.

You can have a college style ring made for the Peace Corps at Wal-mart. I was able to have Peace Corps Malawi put on it with a blue stone, The color of Peace.

I designed my own Peace Corps ring.
