I am a returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Paraguay, SA in the years 1972 through 1974. From my experience then, all was so tranquilo. I am wondering is this country still has this laid back air to it. Cutting to the chase. I am contemplating a vacation trip down to Santiago, Chile in January of next year (2005). I am currently living in Los Angeles, CA and have been in touch with various different South Americans who advise me that things have changed and that I ought to "tenga cuidado". I was planning on taking a bus over from Santiago to Asuncion, just to spend a few days and maybe reminisce a bit. I will most likely be traveling alone and am interested in hearing from anyone who may have some thoughts on this matter.

i think it's alright, just stay out of big supermarkets, especially when they are on fire.
