Development Project Management Institute (DPMI) Announcements

WHAT IS DPMI?
The Development Project Management Institute (DPMI) is a professional certificate program that combines guided individual readings (completed prior to the commencement of class meetings), three weeks of intensive classroom instruction, and a personal reflection paper submitted three months after the conclusion of classroom work.
The intensive DPMI-training, organized as three separate modules, lasts three weeks. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4:00 pm (Note: Monday, January 1st class scheduled from 12 pm-6 pm). Each module is taught by a highly regarded current practitioner with extensive international development experience. The modules are closely linked to the UN Millennium Development Goals. Participants receive a stand-alone Certificate of Completion from the Development Project Management Institute upon fulfillment of program requirements. DPMI certificate holders are eligible for short-term, paid consulting assignments with Pact (http://www.pactworld.org/). Assignments may be either in Washington, D.C. or the field. More than a dozen DPMI graduates have enhanced their resumes in this fashion.
Module #1: Managing Development Projects. In this training module, participants will gain an understanding of the project cycle and how to identify and analyze project opportunities. The Results Framework will be introduced as a tool to guide project design and inform project monitoring, including how to identify and select appropriate indicators. Participants will also learn how to apply various tools for project monitoring and evaluation. Implementation of strategies to ensure sustainable benefits and alternative evaluation methods will also be discussed. At the module's completion, participants will create an overall evaluation plan for a project along with a detailed project implementation plan using the results framework.
Module #2: Strategies for Effective Partnering. Lectures, discussions, case study analyses, simulations and a special project are all incorporated into this module exploring effective partnering and multi-stakeholder communication strategies. This course is structured to help participants gain proficiency in using a broad range of resources and tools to promote effective partnerships and knowledge networking for development. Systems thinking is emphasized.
Module #3: Skills for Effective Change Agents. This interactive and practical module~introduces participants to the roles of facilitator, trainer, and change agent. The module~focuses on transferring skills to participants so they can conduct their own training programs. Local human resource development is an important component in every development project. Topics covered include needs assessment, adult learning practices, community~mobilization, stakeholder negotiation, conflict mediation, and the training of trainers.~
This is a non-credit, professional certificate program. The fee for the DPMI program is $1950 for Monterey Institute students. Up to 12 credits may be earned upon completion of DPMI program through a special directed study option. All academic credit requires payment of normal Monterey Institute tuition. This program is available to first and second year students.
