This is a letter I received requesting help as described below. Please advise or contact Susan directly.
Thanks,
Carol Packwood (Jamaica 91-93)

A Keene State College intern collected shoes in 2005 and 2006 on campus and in the community. I have 3 large black trash bags full of shoes in excellent condition, the purpose of which was to provide them to youth so that they could attend school. The destination is a program in Tanzania called Africa Bridge (www.africabridge.com).

I honestly don't know how much they weigh, but if I had to guess I would say 60-70 pounds each. In addition my intern collected school and medical supplies. These weigh at least another 100 pounds.
Unfortunately, she struck out with local businesses in creating a gratis shipping plan. The shipper quotes she received were astronomical - $1500-$2500.
I believe that some business out there would ship these free. We just don't know who to approach. And so they sit in my office, and children who might otherwise be able to attend school are not able to do so.
I do hope that we can find a solution to this problem very
soon.
