Kazakh government offers maximum support to US Peace Corps

Astana, 3rd May: The US Peace Corps' intention to expand its presence in Kazakhstan will find "maximum support" from the leadership and the government of the republic, Prime Minister Kasymzhomart Tokayev said during a meeting with the director of the US Peace Corps, Mark Schneider, in Astana today.
He said the programmes carried out by the Peace Corps in the sphere of healthcare, environmental protection, the development of small business and teaching English were of interest for the republic.
According to Tokayev, the activity of the US Peace Corps in Kazakhstan "undoubtedly deserves a positive assessment". According to him, the Peace Corps has done a good deal in Kazakhstan.
It is noteworthy, in the prime minister's view, that the corps' volunteers "are disengaged from political events and work for the good of civilization". "This is very important," Tokayev noted.
The prime minister said that the corps' activity was an "important factor" in the development of the cooperation between the two countries.
In his turn, Schneider said that the Peace Corps intended this year to increase the number of volunteers in Kazakhstan to 160.
Now 110 volunteers of this organization are working in the republic.
