Hello for Moldova!!

Excuse my delay in keeping you well informed, but as Spring draw[s] near, my life is getting busier and busier. Baseball started last week in Causeni and I have two teams of twenty kids who just love to play this "new" sport. I spend about nine hours a week practicing these kids, as Opening Day is the third weekend in May. I have a co-coach (volunteer) whose parents sent an amazing amount of equipment and uniforms, so at least we'll look sharp!

And off to Russia in two weeks for the Odyssey of the Mind Competition. The fund raising effort was not much of a success (thank you Kimmy!), but we are going ahead with it anyway, going into debt and hoping most of the checks are just late in coming. I apologize to any of you who thought it inappropriate of me to shamelessly ask for money, but I never imagined it would be so difficult for two people to raise a couple thousand dollars!

We leave at the end of the month and have many things to tie up before we go...but fortunately, school is beginning to wrap up, which means summer will be soon to follow!@!

This has to be short and sweet - I have to meet my Debate Club team, today is their competition. These kids are on a roll. They won OM, Model United Nations, and hopefully today they will take Debate Competition, securing the Triple Crown of Moldovan English-speaking contests! (These are the same students we are taking to Russia - I told you they deserve it!)

Happy Spring and I would love to hear from you!

Leila's Bio:

Age: 24

Hometown: Hyde Park, New York, USA

Current Residence: Causeni, Moldova

Major/Education level: Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine

Why I chose to become a PCV: Because I wanted to live somewhere else and take this American Education such that others less fortunate could benefit from it. As A PCV I am teaching Health Education to 6-7th graders, working with a Prev., Med Center and doing an after school health club at the high school.

Comments: After PC, med school; Hardest part is working for the government; Best part? Affecting those lives around me; Family was supportive but maybe didn't think it a great idea to postpone education further.

Website looks great!!!

My wish list is changed, though. If I get any more Q-Tips I will drown in them. You can scratch the whole thing and replace it with [SEE WISH LIST BELOW-et]. That's it for now. I will try to send you a decent photo - I now have a diggie camera, too!!!

Love,

Leila

P.S. I started a baseball team at site recently, and it is my biggest thing going right now...Plus! Taking our Odyssey of the Mind team to Russia next week - they won the National comp[etition] here!
