Update
Due to the inability of the US congress to pass appropriation bills for fiscal year 2003, Peace Corps cannot authorize staff to travel to Albania to start up the program, let alone authorize the restart. As frustrating as this is for me, for other staff hired for new country entries and re-entries it is more painful. Some are having to take leave without pay or be required to travel on temporary status unaccompanied by their familes. We were in this boat but by circumstances are in a holding pattern in Ukraine.
Let's hope the congress can get it together and pass a budget.

In Tirana
We're here in Tirana. We arrived a few weeks back and have been very busy getting established. Some of the things we are working on are hiring staff, getting staff apartments leased, getting an office identified, and all the other things that go with getting an operation up and running.
We are in the hotel still as we finalize our apartment leases. It's a nice place and we are finding Tirana a nice place to be in. It's been nice and warm, as compared to Kiev, much warmer. Miles is enjoying it too.
The power goes out a few times a night, sometimes more. The hotel has a generator that kicks the power back on a few seconds later. Our apartment has this too, which will be nice.
