USAID NAMES NEW MISSION DIRECTOR FOR BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA

Sarajevo, January 31, 2000-The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) named its new mission director for Bosnia-Herzegovina. On January 19th, Edward L. Kadunc, Jr. was was sworn in as mission director in a ceremony at USAIDís Washington, D.C. headquarters. He arrived in Bosnia-Herzegovina on January 27th.

Mr. Kadunc will oversee USAIDís $800 million program helping to create a stable, democratic Bosnia-Herzegovina with a functioning free-market economy. USAIDís activities include infrastructure repair, economic reform, and democracy building.

Mr. Kadunc is a career foreign service officer with over 24 years of experience in international development. For the past two years, he has served as the USAID Mission Director to the Dominican Republic. Earlier in his career, Mr. Kadunc served USAID in Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Jamaica and Nicaragua.

He began his career as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bogota, Colombia and held other positions in the Peace Corps from 1968-1972.

Mr. Kadunc was raised in Cleveland, Ohio and is currently a resident of Fort Myers, Florida and Madison, Maine. He received a B.A. degree from John Carroll University in 1965, and a M.P.H. from the University of Michigan in 1974. He is married to Helena Kadunc. They have two children, Jon Paul and Andrew.
