I feel that the U.S. Peace Corps should never have been sent to Poland

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor,

I found the article "Sweet Sorrow" (Voice No. 26, July 1) amusing. I feel that the U.S. Peace Corps should never have been sent to Poland.

Poland is not an impoverished country. I feel that there are areas of the U.S. that are poorer than rural Poland. Most cities in Poland have public transport networks that put those in the U.S. to shame. I think that the Peace Corps workers should be sent to America's slums and rural poor.

I remember meeting an American Peace Corps Volunteer who was based in Lithuania. She told me that she "would prefer to help poor farmers in the Eastern Bloc instead of the inner city blacks in America." This woman was typical of the volunteers and relief workers I would meet in Central Europe.
