Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Said Abdella Meets with Representatives of American Peace Corps

Asmara, October 23, 2002 (ERNA) -- Mr. Ali Said Abdella, Eritrean Minister of Foreign Affairs, met in his office Tuesday, October 22, with a delegation of the US Peace Corps that came to Eritrea to explore ways of continuing the cooperation of the organization with Eritrea.

In the meeting, the five-member Peace Corps team led by Ms. Elizabeth O'Malley, mentioned that cooperation activities of the Peace Corps in Eritrea had been discontinued because of the war, and that currently the organization wishes to continue its activities in Eritrea.

Minister Ali Said on his part assured the group that Eritrea looks positively at the role of the Peace Corps.

The Peace Corps delegation will be staying in Eritrea for 10 days and will meet with ministers of health, education, agriculture and explore possibilities of cooperation with their organization in each sector.

Present in the meeting with Minister Ali Said Abdella was also US Ambassador to Eritrea, Mr. Donald McConnell.
