At the end of an audience accorded him by Prime Minister Peter Mafany Musonge Tuesday, Earl Yates, United States Peace Corps regional director for Africa revealed that the humanitarian organisation's next project in Cameroon would be to to train small and medium-sized businessmen, an action which he said would boost employment especially in the rural areas of the country.

Mr. Yates who is currently visiting Cameroon to appraise his organisation's projects in the country - which are mainly focused in the areas of agroforestry and education - said the new drive was motivated by the support they received both from government and local authorities in their previous projects and called on Cameroon's continuous collaboration with his organisation.

Mr. Yates said Cameroon was not only a valuable partner to his organisation in development but had serued as a support base for peace Corps volunteers fleeing troubled zones in Africa.

The US Peace Corps African regional director, who leaves Cameroon for Cote d'Ivoire Thursday has also held talks with some government officials. He was accompanied in the assessment tour by the Peace Corps Director in Cameroon and the Chargé d'Affairs at the US Embassy in Yaounde.

The American Peace Corps launched its activities in Cameroon (specifcally in the English speaking West Cameroon) in August 1962 with 20 volunteers. Since then, its activities have spread to many other parts of both the French and English speaking parts of the country.
