Mark Lopes researches the use of information technology to support international development. His recent work includes an in-depth study of technology and education in the Dominican Republic with the Harvard Dominican Initiative and a look into using technology to help rural development in East Timor. Previously, Mark served in the U.S. Peace Corps as a rural health and water sanitation volunteer in Paraguay. He then launched and led Peace Corps Paraguay's IT Initiative where he collaborated with the World Links for Development Program at the World Bank, helping to support computer labs in schools throughout the country. He authored or co-authored country profiles for Honduras, Guatemala, Panama and Paraguay in the Global IT Report published by the Center for International Development and the World Economic Forum. Prior to his work in South America, Mark spent two years as a software developer. He graduated magna cum laude studying jazz performance and arranging from Berklee College of Music in Boston and will receive his Master in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard in 2003.
