I left for Kazakhstan for my two years Peace Corps assignment where I taught English to Kazakh and Russian students.

I left for Kazakhstan for my two years Peace Corps assignment where I taught English to Kazakh and Russian students.

My name is Kevin Miller, Jr. I was born on April 16, 1972, in Mountain View, California. I grew up in Centralia, Washington, and graduated from Centralia High School (Home of the Tigers) in 1990. After high school, I entered the US Marine Corps Reserve. I spent a year on active duty before I was deactivated and placed on reserve status. I then enrolled at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. I graduated in 1996 with a Double Bachelor of Arts in American Ethnic Studies and Sociology. My emphasis was on cross cultural relations.

Before entering the Peace Corps, I was a Lead Child Counselor with the Source Child Center. It was challenging work but I enjoyed working with the children, most who were abused at home or in foster care. After working at Source, I left for Kazakhstan for my two years Peace Corps assignment where I taught English to Kazakh and Russian students. I also helped register the Rose Kaplan School as a nongovernmental organization with the local government (It is now known as the Rose Kaplan School). After the Peace Corps, I became a High School Program Recruiter for the American Councils for International Education. I searched throughout Kyrgyzstan for some of the best high school students to send to the US. Kyrgyzstan is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and I am glad I was able to view most of it ((View pictures of the 2000 Participants from Kyrgyzstan and pictures of Kyrgyzstan at Salaam Kyrgyzstan).

Before arriving at Indiana University, I again worked as a child counselor with the Ryther Child Center on an on-call basis in Seattle. I also attended a summer Russian language workshop during the summer at the University of Washington.

In May, 2003, I earned my Master's of Public Affairs from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. I studied Comparative & International Affairs, and Information Systems (IT Management) and Nonprofit Management. I currently reside in Seattle, Washington.

Below are pictures of me and what I have done since I graduated from high school in June, 1990.
