The Globe Family is Growing

The GLOBE program in Macedonia will be nine members strong, following the conference in Berovo where teachers from four new schools will be trained in the GLOBE protocols. We welcome these new schools in Berovo, Probistip, Skopje, and Strumica and look forward to the upcoming year and increased cooporation and exchange between all GLOBE schools within Macedonia.

In order to foster such exchange we encourage all GLOBE instructors to share with their students the news from the other schools within Macedonia. Networking between all the GLOBE participants allows for an exchange of ideas and for the extension of GLOBE outside of the classroom and into your communities.

Remember you can communicate with all GLOBE schools in Macedonia and around the world through their GLOBE E-mail accounts which are accessible on the GLOBE website at: www.globe.gov. Also at this site is information on web-chats and other GLOBE activities.

The following is an update on GLOBE in Macedonia.

Berovo

"Aco Ruskovski" is a secondary school which will implement the GLOBE Program following the Second National Training Workshop. With support from the instructors Slobadon Pandov, Liljana Jovanovska, Jovanka Peshnahka, and Peace Corps Volunteer Dana Olson.

Prilep

"Pero Toshev" is a primary school located in the Village Dupjancani. The GLOBE professor there Jarko Ginovski works with about twenty students in grades five to eight. Pero Toshev has been recognized on the "Chief Scientists’ Honor Role" for submitting over 2,000 measurements. See the article "GLOBE Stars" in this newsletter for more information on how your school can be recognised with this honor.

Message from the GLOBE Country Coordinator

As the Country Coordinator for the GLOBE Program in Macedonia I want to express my great thanks to all those who helped and supported the organization of this year's Second National GLOBE Seminar which will be held from the 8th-10th April in Berovo. In this respect I want to especially thank the Pedagogical Institute and the U.S. Peace Corps Program in Macedonia; without their support this seminar would not have been possible.

In addition I would like to thank the five GLOBE schools for their excellent implementation of the GLOBE Program and for their collection of a great number of measurements over the past year. I hope that in the future these schools will continue their diligent work.

Finally, I would like to welcome the four new schools to be incorporated into the GLOBE Program. I look forward to the future of GLOBE in Macedonia and to an increase in the collaboration between the students and instructors from all GLOBE schools within our country.

Svetlana Gjorgejva

Country Coordinator
