My name is Dawn Bascue and I have been invited to join the PC in Haiti. In short, my family and friends are freaking--especially in light of the recent protests. Could someone with some inside knowledge of the situation please email me regarding the safety and security of single female volunteers in Haiti. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm tearing my hair out trying to make this decision. Thanks

You say that a couple - not all - of the kids weren't very appreciative of your Easter egg hunt. However, you had that they wanted eggs for "every one of their bratty friends." So it's unclear: were all the kids bratty, or just a "couple" of them? Granted, the two sounded like brats, but were all the kids like that...???
I've read other accounts of North Americans who have worked with Haitian children, and they say almost uniformly that these kids are well-behaved and polite.
I have to say: I can see why a lot of people think the Peace Corps is just another form of colonialism.
