Ms Kylie Lowson opening the Mota Lava Youth Centre

On Tuesday 15th October, the newly completed Mota Lava Youth Centre was officially opened on behalf of the British High Commissioner by Ms. Kylie Lowson, the Small Grants Scheme coordinator at the British High Commission.

At a ceremony organised by the Mota Lava Youth Council Committee and the Torba Regional Youth Council, Mr. Evan Baker from the Department of Youth Development and Sport and the National Youth Council noted that every youth group on Mota Lava had contributed time, hard work and materials to building the youth centre. He said that this was the first time in Vanuatu that all of the youth groups of an island had come together to build a shared meeting space. He further congratulated the youth groups for working together to achieve a common goal, and encouraged all groups to make good use of the centre now that it was completed.

Ms. Lowson said that the British High Commission was delighted that they were able to contribute the building materials for this worthwhile project. She said that the Centre would provide a space for all of the youth of Mota Lava to come together for courses, to plan activities, and to learn from each other. She also congratulated all members of the youth groups for their work, and especially Peace Corps volunteer Andrea Shalek and Torba Regional Youth Council President Mr. Edgar Howard for successfully coordinating so many different groups of people working together.
