Summary of Professional Activities
1971-73 Director of English, Truk, Micronesia: Supervised and coordinated the ESL program for 57 elementary schools and four high schools.
1973-75 Research Assistant: Bilingual Teacher Training Project for Micronesian Schools, University of Hawaii. Assisted with development, implementation and research for the training program for 35 Micronesian language instructors.
1277-79 Alexander & Baldwin Agribusiness: Developed, implemented and coordinated language training programs for Iranian, Sudanese, Ivory Coast and Liberian sugar training personnel.
1978-80 Chairman, Language Arts Division, Maui Community College.
1982-84 Chairman, Language Arts Division, Maui Community College
1981-94 Hawaii Writing Project teacher-training consultant. Conduct yearly state-wide composition teacher-training workshops for elementary, secondary and college level instructors.
1984-85 Fulbright Scholar. Assigned to Ministry of Education, Curriculum Development Center, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Coordinated the research and development for a new English language textbook for A Level General English program: "An Integrated Course in English for The A-Level." The text was published in November, 1986 by Department of Education, Sri Lanka.
1985-86 Peace Corps, Sri Lanka. Training Director. Developed, implemented ESL training programs and in-service seminars for Peace Corps trainees, volunteers and Sri Lankan ESL teachers.
1989-90 Fulbright Scholar, University of Northern Malaysia. Kedah Province, Malaysia. Taught undergraduate ESL courses, conducted fourteen in-service ESL/English workshops for 350 high school, technical college and university instructors.
1992-93 Legislative Aide, US House of Representatives, Office of Hawaii Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink. While on sabbatical, served as legislative and correspondence aide for Ms. Mink.
