The Peace Corps Journals of Jordan Earl in Uzbekistan
The Peace Corps Journals of Jordan Earl in Uzbekistan
There is a trick to capturing 3 months of experience in several paragraphs. Unfortunately, I don’t know the trick, so I’m trying here to think of a few things to start up this new webpage. First of all, a huge thanks to Allison Sanders, one of my longtime friends, who is stateside and is helping out with the design and maintenance. I say helping out; she’s really doing all the work. We met in English lit class about 10 years ago - I was impressed that she brought her own hot coffee to class in the mornings. We’ve talked about this page several times. What I’d like to do with it, what she is able to create.
My idea is to show Uzbekistan, and the people and events that I know here, on a site that friends and family can check out at any time. Pictures, journal entries, maybe a message board to answer questions. I would also like to clarify some of the confusion about what exactly it is that I’m doing here. The Peace Corps can be difficult to explain; add to that the premise that I’m finishing a second internship for an M.A. in Teaching ESL, and you’ve lost your audience. So stick around. I’ll try to get things up here that show what some of the other volunteers are up to, as well. Hopefully, people will be able to see what an interesting, fascinating, enigmatic place Central Asia is, and how important its future is to the stability of the entire region.
