Harold E. Springer, 74, went to Heaven Jan. 15, 2004. He was born March 17, 1929, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Vernon and Florence Springer. He served in the Army for three years and then worked for Bill Page Pontiac before joining the Peace Corps. While in the Peace Corps he served in Brazil for three and a half years and later returned as a volunteer missionary for two and a half months to assist a group in building a new church. He owned and operated Call Harold Inc., a heating and air conditioning company, as well as major appliance repairs. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Springer; daughter, Mary Kuhn and husband Carl of Virginia Beach; son, John Springer of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Robert Carey, Stephanie Schmitt, Dennis Carey, Tiffany Bond, Susann Kuhn and Lindsey Springer Truesdel; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Springer of Overland Park, Kan., and Vernon Springer of Santa Anna, Calif.; sister, Eleanore Johnson of Overland Park; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Ann Cloud and brother, Charles Ray Springer. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Charles Allard of Apex, N.C., who served with Harold in the Peace Corps. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to hospice or to one's church or volunteer organization.
