PORTLAND, Ore. - PRNewswire - Feb. 6

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Regence Group, a four-state affiliation of Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield companies, has named Dr. Jeffrey A. Robertson executive vice president, health care services. Dr.Robertson's appointment is effective immediately, and he will report to Mark Ganz, president of The Regence Group.

"Jeff's expertise in the creation and innovation of health-care delivery systems will enhance our ability to provide value and superior service to our members," said Ganz. "His passion for community service has taken him across the globe, and his dedication to providing medical services to those in need complements our goal of helping our members and their families navigate the health-care system."

Prior to his promotion, Robertson was the senior vice president and chief medical officer for Regence BlueShield in Washington, one of The Regence Group's four affiliate health Plans. He was responsible for medical management, which included utilization review, quality improvement, disease management and case management programs. He was also responsible for provider network management, including medical payment policies and procedures, and contracting with physicians and providers. In his new role, Robertson will remain in the company's Seattle office.

Before joining Regence BlueShield in 1998, Robertson was the chief medical officer for NYLCare Health Plans Northwest in Seattle. He also previously served as medical director for QualMed Health Plan. Prior to joining QualMed, Robertson practiced for 10 years in family practice and emergency medicine.

An active member of the community, Robertson serves on the board of the Foundation for Healthcare Quality. He is an avid traveler and adventurer, and has served as the doctor on numerous mountain treks and expeditions, including Everest, Annapurna and Kanchenjunga. He also worked as a physician with the Peace Corps in Nepal, where he had the opportunity to volunteer alongside Mother Teresa and learned how to manage with limited medical resources. An experienced pilot, Robertson has logged more than 1,000 hours in the air and donates flights to various charities.

Robertson earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in biochemistry and Spanish from Rice University. He earned his M.D. from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Washington. He is board certified in Managed Care Medicine, and is a licensed physician and surgeon in Washington State.
