Fourth District C.A. Slates Service for Justice Crosby

A memorial service for retired Fourth District Court of Appeal Justice Thomas F. Crosby Jr., who died Jan. 23, will be held Feb. 27.
The courtís presiding justice, David G. Sills, said in a statement released Wednesday that the service will take place at the Historic Santa Ana Courthouse, at 211 West Santa Boulevard, and will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Crosby served on the Court of Appeal from 1982 until his retirement in 2001.
“His scholarship was respected by all in the legal community and he was a good friend to the justices and staff of our court,” Sillsí statement said. “He will be missed by all of us.”
Crosby was appointed to the appellate bench by then-Gov. Jerry Brown after only 13 months as an Orange Superior Court judge. Brown had named him to that court in 1981.
Before joining the bench, Crosby was in private practice in Newport Beach from 1978 to 1981, and had been a partner in two law firms—Crosby, Garey & Bonner and Crosby and Luesbrink. He had previously worked as an Orange deputy district attorney.
After graduating from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1965, Crosby worked for the Peace Corps in Peru, and as a field attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in San Francisco. Survivors include Justice Crosby’s wife and two sons.
The Court of Appeal requested that memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation at 3191-A Airport Loop Drive in Costa Mesa.
