About Me
My name is Josh Caplan, and I am a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer serving on the Island Nation of Grenada in the West Indies. My job title is Information & Communication Technology Trainer, and the Peace Corps program for the Eastern Caribbean region is Youth & Community Development.
I have two primary assignments. My main assignment is with the Ministry of Education. I have been charged with the task of developing and implementing a collaborative file-sharing and file management application in order to allow various departments within the Ministry to communicate and share information more effectively. Currently, I am looking into implementing the new Microsoft Office 2003 System.
My other primary assignment is with the Child Welfare Authority. This organization is responsible for protecting the rights and responsibilities of all children throughout the island. It oversees every childcare home on the island and ensures that each child under its care is treated with dignity and respect. My task with the CWA is to computerize the individual files for each child under its care. I am developing a database using FileMaker Pro 6.0 into which I will enter the record information for each child.
As for my educational background, I graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia in May 2003. I received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with concentrations in Information Technology and International Business. Additionally, I received a Minor in German from the College of Arts and Sciences.
My Peace Corps service officially commenced on 12 September 2003 after five weeks of Pre-Service Training on St. Lucia and Grenada. My two years of service will be up at the end of August 2005. At present I do not have a set idea of what I will do when my Peace Corps services ends.
