Yakima Couple Recounts Peace Corps Adventures

Yakima -
A Yakima couple may have put their Peace Corps days behind them, but they're still praising the America's best known, "good will" program.
Norm and JoAnn McCarthy spent nearly two years in Morocco, on the northwest African coast.
They were evacuated in April of 2003, due to rising political tensions in the area because of the Iraq war.
On Thursday, they told the Yakima Rotary about their experiences teaching English at several Moroccan community centers.
The McCarthys were different than most Peace Corps members.
While most are young and single, the McCarthys were in their late-fifties.
"Because we were evacuated, we still feel that we should say goodbye properly," said Norm McCarthy.
The couple says, while in Africa, they learned to live with a lot less.
While Morocco has been reopened to the Peace Corps, the McCarthys have no plans to return anytime soon.
