Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope will launch his new book, 'Strategic Ignorance: Why the Bush Administration is Recklessly Destroying a Century of Environmental Progress', on Earth Day at the National Press Club. The Newsmaker event kicks off a nationwide tour of colleges, book stores and media appearances, including a speech at Georgetown University on Earth Day.

A veteran leader of the environmental movement, Pope has been with the Sierra Club for 30 years and has been executive director since 1992. He also serves on numerous boards, is a veteran of the Peace Corps, and has written two previous books, Sahib: An American Misadventure in India (1971) and Hazardous Waste in America (1981).
