I was also PC in Sierra Leone in 1979 when Tim was killed. I knew him but not well. I remember myself and other volunteers being concerned when he was issued a motorcycle. The driving conditions in Sierra Leone were the worst any of us had ever seen. We felt strongly that it required constant use of both arms to safely navigate the roads and avoid the many untrained drivers there. Why would the notes about Tim's death say the motorcycle was unauthorized? My understanding was Peace Corps had the motorcycle modified for him at a workshop in Bo.
