GABORONE - A second group of US Peace Corps Volunteers is expected to arrive in Botswana at the end of March 2004.
According to a press release from the US embassy, the 39 volunteers are going to help in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
They will be involved in three different types of projects under the ministry of Local government. One group will be placed at the district and sub-district level working with the district AIDS coordinators.
The second group is going to be placed in villages where they will work within the department of Social Service's Home-based care programmes and the last group will work on the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) at village level.
The volunteers who come from 18 different states in the US will serve in Botswana for a period of two years.
Before taking up their stations, they will attend a 10 week pre-service training to equip them with Setswana language skills, understanding of the local cultures as well as how to place their technical skills in the context of Botswana.
The second group of volunteers will add up the number of volunteers already in Botswana to 50. BOPA
